1st Annual MFE Spelling Bee

Save the Date…March 24, 2015 – Memorial HS Auditorium 6:00-8:00

Manchester Foundation for Education will host a low-key fun spelling event.  This event will foster some good natured competition among teams while raising money for this great organization.  Don’t worry…there will be NO individual spelling.  All participants will compete in teams, or hives, of 3 and will work together to spell each word.  There will be 6 rounds of competition with 7 hives per round.  The winning hive from each round will compete in the final championship round to earn the honor of being named the Queen Bees of spelling.

We are looking for your support in putting together a team or two from your school.  Team names and costumes should be creative and fun.  There will even be a prize for the best dressed and most unique name.

Although the entry fee for each hive is $300, MFE board members are working hard to secure sponsors for each hive that is comprised of school district faculty and staff.

During each round our pronouncer will read a word and each hive will have 30 seconds to work together to spell the word and write it on a white board for the judges to review.  Each team will get 2 misspelling chances and will be eliminated from a round on the third misspelling.

If you would like to register a hive, please contact MFE at staceyweigler@mfenh.org!   Include speller’s names, email address and school they represent.

Manchester Foundation for Education is an independent community non-profit organization founded to strengthen public education in Manchester by engaging community members as partners in the pursuit of educational excellence.

Since our founding we have worked to bring together the business and education community to provide professional development workshops to high school teachers.  We have also worked with the school district’s attendance officer and social workers to provide alarm clocks to students struggling with chronic attendance issues.  Most recently we sponsored the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce Education Leadership Greater Manchester program.  The leadership program brings together teachers from all of the City’s schools and provides them the opportunity to learn from experts in various fields, what skills are necessary for students to be successful.

We intend to continue this partnership and expand programming which will enhance education opportunities for all of Manchester public school students.

Thank you for your support.  We look forward to some laughs, great spelling and raising money to put toward this important initiative!
